Frank Robinson Signed Payroll Check, Rochester Red Wings, 1978

A payroll check issued by Rochester Community Baseball Inc., made out to Frank Robinson in the amount of $200.00, dated June 27, 1978, drawn on the Central Trust Company of Rochester. By this point Robinson had already broken major barriers in the sport, becoming Major League Baseball's first Black manager with the Cleveland Indians in 1975, and he went on to manage the Rochester Red Wings before taking over the San Francisco Giants in 1981 and later returning to Baltimore to manage the Orioles. Robinson himself remains one of the greatest players in baseball history, a Triple Crown winner, two-time MVP, and Hall of Famer whose career bridged the Reds and Orioles dynasties of the 1960s and 70s. The check is boldly signed by Robinson on the back and PSA/DNA certified authentic (cert 83198350). A meaningful artifact from Robinson's transition years between his playing days and his groundbreaking managerial career.
